Christmas in NYC is magical to experience. People soften their demeanor. You might hear someone whistling “O Little Town of Bethlehem” as they stroll down the street. The most distracted New Yorkers stop to marvel at the beauty of all the decorations of glitter, Christmas trees and lights.

Now, we know we just recently published an article about the real meaning of Christmas. We still stress that we should keep God at the forefront of why we celebrate this special holiday. NYC Subway System- Navigating the Subway System can be an adventure in itself, and will be challenging during Christmas in NYC. When planning your daily excursions, there are many helpful apps or website that will tell you directions to your destinations. One helpful app includes “Transit” or “Moovit” which tells you how to get to locations using the NYC subway system with maps of the subway system as well.

St. Patrick’s Cathedral-

Located on 5th Avenue between 50th and 51st Streets, St. Patrick’s Cathedral is a majestic symbol of Catholic faith right in the heart of New York City. Named a National Historical Landmark in 1976, over five and a half million people visit this beautiful gothic cathedral each year. It is an especially moving place to visit at Christmastime to partake in the 38th Annual “A City Singing at Christmas” on Dec 21st 7-9pm, or Christmas Eve mass at 5:30pm or Midnight Mass at 12am on 12/25 with Timothy Cardinal Dolan (due to its popularity, tickets are required to attend this mass). Directions: You can take a cab or E or M subway line to 5th Ave / 53rd Street, #6 subway to 51st Street, B, D, F, or M to 47-50th Streets / Rockefeller Center. Open daily 6:30am – 8:45pm. Access may be restricted during certain times due to special events.

A Walking Tour of the Holiday Windows for Christmas in NYC-

Ever since the 1870’s, major retailers in NYC have been decking their windows with enchanting scenes often centered around new themes every year. Decorations go up around Thanksgiving and stay up until New Years Day so travelers can enjoy them after Christmas. Since it’s the holiday season, a lot of similar events are lined up for travelers and locals. These events could be found in the best places and neighborhoods in nyc. All you’ve to do is search for them.

Participating stores include Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, Barneys, Bergdorf, Sax Fifth Avenue and Lord and Taylor. To see all six stores you could probably cover about two miles in two hours, depending upon your pace. At night, you’ll enjoy a light show on the facade of Sax Fifth Avenue complete with music and timed lights. To best enjoy this experience, wear warm clothes, comfortable shoes and keep your wits about you as this area can be especially crowded. There is no charge to view the windows. Directions: Start at Bloomingdale’s. Take a cab or the N, R, W, 4, 5, or 6 subway line to the 59th Street / Lexington Avenue stop.

Bryant Park Winter Village-

The 17,000 square foot space occupies 150 shops, eateries and vendors and an ice-skating rink which will run through March 4, 2017. You can enjoy the rink daily from 8am-10pm and shops are open Mon-Fri 11am-8pm, Sat/Sun 10am-8pm. There is no fee to use the rink with your own skates, or you may rent skates for $20. Directions: Take a cab to 40th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues. Or ride the subway using the B, D, F or M to 42nd Street – Bryant Park. You can also take the A, D, or E, to 42nd Street – Port Authority Bus Terminal, or the 1 Uptown Local to Times Square – 42nd Street.

Rockefeller Center and ‘Top of the Rock’-

A well-known sight in New York City during the winter is the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree. This year they’re hosting a 78-foot, 10 ton Norway Spruce with over 45,000 LED lights on display until January 7th. Rockefeller Center is also home to the world’s most famous ice skating rink. Directions: Visit Rockefeller Center at 49th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues. Take the B, D, F, or M to 47th-50th Streets – Rockefeller Center.

Radio City Christmas Spectacular-

Holiday Train Show at the New York Botanical Gardens-

Created by Paul Busse, a collection of trains chug along a half-mile track through the gardens. Watch trains pass miniature NYC landmarks made of leaves, twigs, bark and berries. For more information about the Holiday Train Show, visit nybg.org.
