Welcome to The Leo House

The Leo House is a nonprofit Catholic guesthouse dedicated to offering affordable and temporary accommodations. People of all faiths are welcome and we host a variety of guests including clergy and religious, persons visiting the sick, students, and travelers from the United States and abroad. Many of our guests come from foreign countries. Originally established and based in the Battery Park area of New York in 1889 by papal certification by Pope Leo XIII, The Leo House moved in 1926 to 23rd Street in the Chelsea section of Manhattan, one of the liveliest and safest neighborhoods in New York City.

The Leo House is owned and operated by its own Board of Trustees consisting of laity, religious and clergy committed to upholding the spirit of Christian hospitality in the midst of a busy city.

Affiliated with Catholic Charities

The Leo House is affiliated with Catholic Charities within the Archdiocese of New York, one of the largest Archdioceses in the United States.

In collaboration with devoted laity, the Sisters of St. Agnes of Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin, have served as managers and ministers of Christian hospitality at The Leo House since its founding in 1889. Many religious dignitaries have stayed at The Leo House.

Our staff members are devoted members of the Leo House Community. Many have been employed for over 10 years and continue to be valuable contributors to the success of our establishment.

About The Leo House

Want to learn more about The Leo House? Well, you’ve come to the right place. Centrally located in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood, The Leo House is a quiet, Catholic guesthouse and hotel with an old world charm. We provide hospitality to travelers of all religions, both foreign and domestic. The dedicated staff includes the Sisters of St. Agnes and also lay personnel who look forward to welcoming you for your stay. We offer single and double rooms with private or shared showers (all rooms have a sink and toilet). During your stay, you will have access to a television, a telephone and wifi internet in your room. We also have a business center and two conference rooms that can be rented at request.

A wonderful buffet style breakfast is served everyday except Sunday from 7:00am to 10:30am. We also offer an a la carte breakfast menu. Many of our reviews rave about our resident chef who bakes all of our fresh breads and delicious pastries on premises.

The local residential area (Chelsea NYC) offers a variety of restaurants at very reasonable prices. Entertainment is within walking distance as is Broadway’s theatre district, Madison Square Garden, Times Square, the Fashion District and the Gallery District.

Transportation to many other tourist attractions, such as Greenwich Village, Little Italy, and Chinatown is within a half block of walking distance to the subway or bus. Several local churches are also within walking distance.
