“The Nun Who Kissed Elvis, Ditched Hollywood and Found her Calling.” Before making religious vows to become a nun, Mother Dolores Hart, OSB was a prominent actress in Hollywood. She is now a Roman Catholic Benedictine nun at the Abbey of Regina Laudis Bethlehem monastery in Connecticut. Last July 29, Mother Dolores Hart celebrated her Golden Jubilee and milestone of fifty years of vowed life. Mother Dolores will visit New York City to speak for the second time at the School of Visual Arts Theatre.  The Leo House is proud to announce the return of such a dynamic speaker for another unforgettable event on May 15th, 2017.

If you’d like to learn more about her prior to the event, read her autobiography titled, “The Ear of the Heart: An Actress’ Journey from Hollywood to Holy Vows.” You may also be interested in watching a documentary film based on her life called “God is Bigger Than Elvis.” This documentary brought her to the 84th Academy Awards when the film was nominated in 2012 for “Best Documentary.”

With nearly 200 persons attending her guest speaking event last year, the 2017 event will therefore be held at the SVA Theatre to accommodate more guests. The 2016 audience was attentive and Mother Dolores enjoyed speaking to a crowd that included a cardinal, two bishops, many priests and religious and lay people from the Chelsea neighborhood. Recently a Leo House guest, Patricia McCormick, recalled her experience hearing Mother Dolores speak:

“Having read her biography, “The Ear of the Heart,” I was amazed at her recall and memory, and the sequence in which she details her family life as a child, the road to stardom, and her career in Hollywood as a well-known actress. Most of all it was hearing about her personal call from God (listening with the ear of the heart) to leave it all behind that made the biggest impression. Hearing how she lives with that mystery as a Benedictine Sister was a gift to everyone present at the lecture.”

We hope that you’ll join us for this unique and exciting event.
