Do you have to be Catholic to stay at The Leo House?

No, you do not have to be Catholic to stay with us at The Leo House. You can reserve your room at The Leo House just as you would anywhere else – by going through our reservations system on our website or through other travel partner sites. We also do not ask for any additional personal information beyond what we need to know to make your reservation. All we need to know is when you are coming so we can be sure to have your room ready.

Why is The Leo House ‘A Catholic Guesthouse for Travelers’

The story of the Leo House starts with a group of nuns called the Sister of St. Agnes. The first Sisters working at The Leo House sought out to welcome German Catholic immigrants and then help them adjust to a new life in the United States. The Leo House was founded upon the ideals of Christian Hospitality and is also the only hotel in the United States to feature an onsite chapel that serves mass Monday through Friday. Our mission has since evolved over the years and now The Leo House operates like most hotels. However, in addition to welcoming regular visitors we also run charitable programs. These programs include offering special rates to people who are in need of extra assistance like travelers visiting sick family members in NYC hospitals. We also offer special rates to members of clergy and first responders.

Why are the room rates so low at The Leo House?

We think of ourselves as a hidden gem in the heart of New York City. Not everyone knows about us because we don’t advertise extensively like the big chain hotels. We are a safe, humble, clean, comfortable, quiet and also affordable place to stay in New York City. You will not find a more centrally-located hotel at the same price either.

Clean, Comfortable, Affordable and Centrally-Located

You may not get the glitz and glamour of staying at one of the pricier hotels in New York City – but you’ll certainly get a basic, clean and comfortable place to stay within minutes walking distance from some of fantastic new parks to see, tons of outdoor dining options, and award-winning indoor dining experiences in New York City. We are also thirty steps away from the A/C/E subway station at 23rd Street and 8th Avenue which helps when you want to travel further.

While most of our rooms include a full bathroom, some rooms are still fashioned European hostel style with a half-bathroom inside the room and a shared full bathroom down the hall. You can save even more money by getting a room with a half-bathroom but you also have the option of getting the full bathroom. All rooms are labeled accordingly during booking so you can make the choice that is right for you.

The Leo House is run by a friendly and helpful staff. The building has a lot of historical charm. The kitchen staff makes the best hot cocoa and chocolate chip bars which can be found in the lobby in the afternoons. The room rate includes a hearty breakfast bar 5 days a week. Breakfast seating is family style so guests can meet each other. The business center provides computers and internet, and there is also a snack room. The location is excellent, as well.

部屋は確かに古いですが、必要なものは揃っています。バスタオルも新しく清潔で、エアコンではなく、スチームで部屋が暖まるのは快適。朝食込み、シングル、バス付き、しかもマンハッタンのチェルシーというロケーションを考えると、100ドルちょっとというのは破格の値段だと思います。カソリック系の団体の運営で安く抑えているそうで、女性にも安全、おすすめです。

One of the most affordable places in the area. We were positively surprised after reading some of the reviews! Great location, not in the busiest area but close to it. Clean rooms. Cozy, home-like atmosphere, if you’re not particularly after luxury accommodations. Very friendly staff, talkative guy at reception always asked where we’re going and gave useful tips for our daily adventures. Even the shared shower was clean and comfortable to use, we never needed to queue to the bathroom because they had several available on the same floor. A bit noisy, you can hear traffic from the street – luckily earplugs were available for free in the room. Breakfast is basic and for Europeans it seemed packed with unhealthy stuff like white bread, sausages and cakes. We appreciated breakfast though, for this price it was a good plus! We liked it there and would definitely visit again if they keep these low prices in this insanely expensive city.

So zentral- und nichtige war Manhattan so preiswert. Mit dem Charme einer Jugendherberge kann man NYC genießen und ist schnell überall. Schlafen wird man in New York eh nicht viel. Die Belegschaft-besonders Marilyn- haben für jede Eventualität eine Lösung.

Personal muy cordial, la gente que esta en el desayuno son unos genios, la limpieza es muy buena, las habitaciones con baño son comodas con las duchas medias viejas pero funcionan bien y las que no tienen ducha estan comodas, chicas pero comodas, las camas estan muy buenas tambien chicas pero parecen ser nuevas. Siempre hay galletitas, agua fria y caliente a disposicion del huesped. El desayuno no es muy variado pero muy rico todo lo que probamos . Las duchas compartidas están siempre limpias u secas. Recomiendo el hotel por el precio, desayuno y ubicacion, tiene las bocas del subte a media cuadra para cualquier lado que quieras ir.
