A Mother’s Day Prayer from St. Teresa

Mother’s Day is May 8th, 2022. Did you know that Mother’s Day is an international holiday that brings people together across the world to celebrate motherhood in its various forms? Did you know in early Christianity, the holiday was celebrated on a Sunday because originally “Mothering Sunday” was a day people returned to their “Mother church” or the church in their hometown? Mother’s Day now focuses on honoring the sacrifices that mothers make for their children which is a very worthy thing to celebrate!

Mother’s Day celebrations are the same day in every country and there are also different traditions for celebrating around the world. However, it is a holiday that has been celebrated in some way or another since history has been recorded. What better way for us to celebrate than reflecting with a beautiful prayer from one of our favorite Saints here at The Leo House, St. Teresa. The saying below is meaningful to all people everywhere. It is a prayer that can touch the souls of mothers as well as anyone who reads it. It teaches us to accept ourselves and also know that we are all good enough just the way we are. Perhaps it is just what you needed to hear today.

A Mother’s Day Prayer from St. Teresa

“May today there be peace within. May you trust that you are exactly where you are meant to be. May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith in yourself and others. May you use the gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you. May you be content with yourself just the way you are. Let this knowledge settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love. It is there for each and every one of us.” St. Teresa

Why do we bring up Mother Teresa or St. Teresa on Mother’s Day?

Mother Teresa, now St. Teresa, is perhaps the ultimate representation of a mother – someone who makes sacrifices to care for others and sets good examples for others to follow. In her Nobel lecture, she said, “I think that we in our family don’t need bombs and guns, to destroy to bring peace – just get together, love one another, bring that peace, that joy, that strength of presence of each other in the home. And we will be able to overcome all the evil that is in the world.” Helping people and giving herself to others is how St. Teresa showed her love to others.

More Relatable quotes from St. Teresa for Mothers:

  • “I know God will not give me anything I can’t handle. I just wish that God didn’t trust me so much!”
  • “We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop.”
  • “Spread love everywhere you go and let no one ever come to you without leaving happier.”
  • “In this life we cannot do great things. We can only do small things with great love.”

On Mother’s Day this year, may you feel peace and comfort. Are you a mother? May you get some time to relax and also reflect on the fruits of your sacrifices and the lovely family surrounding you. If you are not yet a mother but wish to be, we keep you in our prayers for good fortune to bless you with the gift of motherhood. If Mother’s Day has become a day of grieving the loss of a Mother, we also keep you in our prayers that the memories and imprints left by your loved ones will last forever, reminding us of the beautiful mark a mother makes on this earth and how they still live on through the people that loved them. Wishing you a lovely Mother’s Day from all of us at The Leo House.
